Taylor Hicks to Star in “Grease” National Tour

The national tour of the Broadway revival of "Grease" will star Taylor Hicks, the winner of American Idol in 2006. The revival of “Grease,” which features book, music, and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, received a 2008 Tony Award nomination for Best Revival.

Hicks acted on Broadway before in the role of “Teen Angel” this summer. "I had such a great experience on Broadway for the last three months," says Hicks. "This is such a great opportunity to visit old fans and new fans across the country while bringing them a great Broadway show!"

The new production of the 70s show will also include songs from the famous film starring John Travolta, such as: "Sandy," the Academy Award nominated song "Hopelessly Devoted to You," "Grease" and "You're the One That I Want" Both of the latter were number 1 hits on the Billboard Top 100 list.

“Grease” will be produced on tour by Paul Nicholas and David Ian, Nederlander Presentations, Inc. and Terry Allen Kramer by arrangement with Robert Stigwood.

The tour will kick off at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, RI on December 2, 2008. The tour is currently booked through May 2009 and it will stop in places like East Lansing, Michigan; Columbus, Ohio; Minneapolis; Chicago; Cincinnati; Baltimore; Tuscon; San Diego; Los Angeles; San Francisco; Portland, Oregon; Costa Mesa; and Seattle.

The famous musical debuted on Broadway in February 1972 with a cast that included Barry Bostwick (Danny), Carole Demas (Sandy) and Adrienne Barbeau (Rizzo). It was played 3,388 times.
