George Takei, better known as Sulu, the helmsman of Enterprise, said he was vexed about his former costar William Shatner’s video rant about not being invited to his recent wedding. Takei said he did invite Shatner to his wedding, but he didn’t hear anything from him.
"It is absolutely baffling to us because, in fact, we did invite Bill and we didn't hear from him,” Takei said in an interview to Entertainment Tonight. He also added that the fact that Shatner didn’t showed up at the wedding ceremony did not surprised him at all as it was typically Shatner.
“Every time there was something happy to celebrate amongst us ... he never showed up," said the 71-year-old actor who played Sulu in the successful science fiction series Star Trek.
In a YouTube video chat, Shatner actually said he didn’t know Takei very well. This also left Takei speechless and annoyed. Well, almost speechless: "We've done six movies together, we did three seasons of television together, we've been doing 'Star Trek' conventions together for the last 40-plus years."
In the YouTube video, Shatner said that he feels badly about the fact that Takei did not invite him and he feels nothing but pity for him.
“It's so patently obvious that there is a psychosis there. I don't know what his original thing about me was. I have no idea," Shatner said.
The wedding ceremony was carried out on September 14. Takei and his longtime boyfriend, 54-year-old business manager Brad Altman, tied the knot after a relationship of 21 years. The ceremony was attended by several Start Trek members such as Walter Koenig ("Chekhov") who was the best man and Nichelle Nichols ("Uhura") who had the role of matron of honor.
