T-Mobile USA, Deutsche Telekom AG of Germany
subsidiary, announced on Wednesday it would start offering a brand new phone
service called T-Mobile@Home at the end of the month.
Before some potential subscribers get a bit overexcited when
they hear about the $10 monthly fee for unlimited calls, they should also keep
in mind the following fact: for gaining access to the T-Mobile@Home service
(which is indeed no more than $10), a T-Mobile cell phone plan is needed (its
price is of about $29.99 a month), as well as a broadband Internet service (which
starts at a monthly fee of $20 and can go up to $50, depending on the user’s
choice).
The aforementioned services are used within the phone
service system. A handset transmits the calls to the Internet through a
T-Mobile router and then, the voice-over-Internet-protocol technology completes
the calls.
Customers will be able to start signing the two-year service
agreements on July 2.
T-Mobile is not the only company to introduce unlimited
calling plans. Also this week, Virgin Mobile announced that starting next
month, it would offer an unlimited calling plan at about $80 a month. Just like
the other calling plans the company is currently offering, the upcoming one
will be pre-paid, so there will be no need to sign any contract. However, the
service doesn’t include free text messaging or e-mail; people will have to pay
an additional $10 for these options.
Verizon Wireless, a Verizon Communications and Vodafone
joint venture, also has a wireless service offer, bringing flat-rate,
all-you-can-talk plans; the pricing starts at 99.99 dollars a month. The
Nationwide Unlimited Anytime Minute Plans allows subscribers to call anyone in
the United States,
regardless the time of day.
