London  - Britain Tuesday reported a new case of swine flu, bringing to 28 the number of people confirmed to have been infected with the H1N1 virus.

The Department of Health said an adult in the south-east of England had been diagnosed with the disease.

In Britain, five schools have been closed protectively for a week after pupils were diagnosed - three of them in London.

Some of the pupils found to have the virus had returned from the US after an Easter holiday break and others had been in contact with people who had recently visited Mexico and the US.

The health authorities in Scotland said Tuesday that a 21-year-old woman was being tested for the virus after returning from a trip to New York.
