The folk-pop singer and
songwriter Suzanne Vega seemed to have disappeared out of the public life since
her latest album, 2001’s “Songs in Red and Gray”. But, as she has now
explained, her continual activity has never stopped; it is just that she has
not released any new studio album.
Suzanne Vega has been doing lots
of things since her latest 2001’s album release. First of all she promoted
“Songs in Red and Gray” for two years, and, at the same time, she was compiling
a collection called “The Virgil Project”, which was inspirited by the tragic
events from the 11th of September 2001. Members of the Greenwich Village
Songwriter’s Exchange were involved too in this project.
Then, in 2003, Suzanne Vega went
for a change and she started to look for another manager. It took her a year,
but she found whom she really needed. And that was not all. The singer got also
married, wrote another few songs, hosted a public-radio series and she hasn’t
been forgotten by fans.
However, the 17th of
July 2007 will be a really important date for these loyal fans and for the
47-year-old singer too, as she will release “Beauty & Crime”, which will be
the first album of the singer’s latest agreement with EMI’s Blue Note.
“Beauty & Crime” is a 11-track album. Vega has
started working at these tracks just after the 9/11 events, so the theme of the
album is New York,
the city of “beauty and crime”.
