While Scott Ruffalo is still in critical condition at a Los Angeles hospital
after suffering a wound to his head last week, police now have two suspects in
custody.
News of the attack on actor Mark Ruffalo’s brother came as a
shock last week, with Los Angeles
police giving few details on what had happened. What the media was told at the
time was that Scott Ruffalo, 39, had been shot in the head at his home on North Palm Drive in Beverly Hills, on December 1.
The well-known hairdresser, who moved from his native Kenosha, Wis. to San Diego with his family in his youth, has worked in
salons in Santa Monica and Beverly Hills.
At the time, Jessica Kolstad, publicist for Mark Ruffalo,
would only say the actor’s younger brother had been shot in the head at his Beverly Hills condominium
early Monday morning, at about 1:40 a.m.
Beverly Hills
police spokesperson Lt. Tony Lee said “suspicious activity” had taken place at
the location and time of the shooting and that that detectives were
investigating whether the shooting was homicidal, accidental or suicidal.
A few days later, the Beverly Hills Police Department
identified two people as “persons of interest” in the shooting and said they
wanted to question the pair, Brian Scofield and Shaha Mishaal Adham, as part of
an attempted murder investigation. Scofield, 29 years old, and Adham, 26 years
old, live in the Los Angeles
area.
By then, Ruffalo’s publicist had also revealed his younger
brother was clinging to life.
Adham turned herself in to Beverly Hills police on Monday, according to
media reports. An attempted murder warrant for her arrest had been issued
earlier on Monday. Adham is being held without bail.
Scofield, apparently a friend of the woman’s, arrived at the
police station with Adham. He was booked for a misdemeanor traffic warrant for
past violations.
Police have not revealed a possible motive for the attack.
Scott Ruffalo has had problems with the law before, as he
was convicted in 2002 for possession of a controlled substance with intent to
sell. He is married to Luzelena Ruffalo, a fellow hairdresser, and is
stepfather to her daughter, Lucinda. He remains hospitalized.
Mark Ruffalo has starred in films such as The Last Castle,
13 Going on 30, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, All the
King’s Men, Zodiac and this year’s Blindness.
Scott Ruffalo is uncle to the actor’s children with Sunrise
Coigney, son Keen, 7, daughter Bella, 3, and daughter Odette, 1.
