A man who was charged with killing a police officer was found dead in his jail cell. According to The Associated Press, The Maryland Medical Examiner confirmed Monday that 19-year-old Ronnie White, who was being held in Prince George's County Correctional Center, was strangled and died from asphyxiation. This happened a day after he was jailed.

The FBI and Maryland State Police are investigating White’s death. Authorities said that some guards and supervisors had access to White’s cell.

When officers who were supposed to verify the prisoner came to bring him food, they had no answer from him. They came into his cell and tried to wake White but he didn’t respond, said Curtis Knowles, president of the corrections officers' union.

County Executive Jack Johnson said that this kind of actions shouldn’t happen and justice should always prevail.

“We live in a constitutional democracy and no one has the right to be judge and jury,” said Johnson, according to United Press International.

White’s body was found Sunday, around 10:30 a.m. He was brought Saturday morning as he had been charged with first degree murder. He allegedly killed Prince George's County Cpl. Richard Findley, 39. Findley was investigating car thefts.

After White was arrested, police placed him in a maximum security cell because he was a “high profile offender.”

Vince Canales, president of the police union, spoke highly of Findley, saying he was also a volunteer firefighter.
