Suspect Kills Family And 2 Cops, Then Barricades In His House

One police officer was injured and another one was killed on Thursday, during an intervention at a house in San Fernando Valley. A man reportedly called the police and announced he had killed three members of his family, after which he barricaded himself in the house, police reported. No details on what might have started such a tragedy were available.

Assistant Police Chief Jim McDonnell said during a news conference that the suspect made the phone call at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. When the SWAT team arrived at the scene, police exchanged gunfire with the suspect and two officers were hit. Unfortunately, one of them was killed, while the other one was taken to the hospital for medical care.

The conflict went on for hours, until the SWAT team entered the home in San Fernando Valley at around 12:30 a.m. and that is when things started to get worse. One of the officers survived his wounds for less than 30 minutes before being pronounced dead at the Northridge Medical Center at around 1 a.m.

The suspect was still barricaded in the house at 4:30 a.m., as Lt. Ruben Delatorre of the Los Angeles Police Department said. 8 hours after the incident first started, the situation continued. 200 police officers from the Los Angeles Police Department surrounded the house by morning, and a SWAT armored vehicle also arrived at the scene.

According to a camera crew arrived at the scene, at least one person’s body could be seen lying in the front yard of the house, while other two were believed to be still inside. The police refused to make more comments for the time being, and sealed the perimeter four blocks around the house. Police helicopters were also circulated over the San Fernando Valley house all through the night.
