A man suspected of slaying the mother of his two children in
Santa Rosa, hiding her body in a toy-closet and then attempting to shoot her
mother has been arrested, authorities confirmed today.
Honorio Pantaleon, 30, is accused of killing Patricia Barrales,
25, on Mother’s Day, in her apartment on Montecito Avenue, the San Francisco
Chronicle reports.
Barrales, who had been stabbed several times, was pronounced
dead at the scene.
Apparently, Barrales’ mother was aware her daughter was a
victim of domestic violence and she had a feeling something was wrong with her,
as her cell phone was turned off. She
came to the building where her daughter lived and asked property manager Bobby
Hopper, to let her in, crying and explaining the situation to him.
Police was called, but the officers did not discover
anything strange the first time they came. When they returned, later in the
day, they found the woman’s body had been hidden in a toy-chest and covered
with toys.
After committing the murder, Pantaleon drove to the house of
Barrales’ mother and tried to shoot her at about 6:30 a.m. Monday, police said.
As the gun didn’t fire, he hit the woman in the head with it. She was treated
and released from hospital and now has the custody of her daughter’s two
children, both under age 5.
Pantaleon is currently being held on suspicion of assault with
a deadly weapon and homicide.
According to the Chronicle, Hopper, 54, said he had noticed
Pantaleon had a strangely protective attitude toward his wife and suspected him
of being very possessive.
