The Internet has become a major part of our lives, and for a
lot of us, it seems to have become even more important than sex! A recent
survey conducted by Harris Interactive and sponsored by Intel Corporation
revealed that two thirds of adults see the Internet as indispensable, and
almost half the women would choose it over sex.
Even though the survey is called “Internet Reliance in
Today’s Economy,” the impact of Internet on adult sex life is probably the
aspect that received most attention.
Nearly half (46 percent) of women aged 18-34 and 52 percent
of women aged 35-44 would rather go without sex for 2 weeks than give up
Internet. The majority of men would choose sex over Internet; however, 39 percent
of men aged 18-34 and 23 percent of men aged 35-44 would give up sex for
Internet.
Another key finding of the survey referred to the importance
of being able to access the Internet in today’s economic climate, with 95
percent of adults considering that having Internet-enabled devices is very
important, important or somewhat important.
Furthermore, 87 percent of adults believe the Internet has
helped them save money, and 82 percent said Internet-enabled devices help them
stay up-to-date with the state of the economy.
The Internet has now become even more important than TV, the
survey found, with 58 percent of adults choosing to give up watching TV for 2
weeks instead of giving up access to the Internet for just one week.
The Internet has also helped 91 percent of users to improve
at least one aspect of their lives, including staying in touch with friends or
family, shopping more effectively, and even managing their finances, such as
online banking and paying bills.
