Wi-Fi service will be provided by Delta Air Lines Inc.
throughout its entire domestic fleet. Several other airlines promise to provide
the same services in the coming future.
The service includes laptops, smartphones, PDAs and other devices
offered to the passengers during a flight. On Tuesday, Delta Airlines announced
that will provide these services to passengers starting this fall.
Apparently, the access will cost $9.95 on three-hour flights
or less and $12.95 on flights of more than three hours. The service will be
available on all domestic planes by the summer of 2009.
Virgin America and American Airlines promised to provide the
service as well, but for a limited number of flights Delta is the only company
that promises Wi-Fi to all its domestic fleet.
Delta Air Lines Inc., which is the U.S.A.’s number
three carrier is working with Aircell for this project. Aircell’s
"Gogo" will be installed on more than 330 aircrafts. Once the
airplane reaches 10,000 feet the captain can allow passengers to turn on the
electronic devices.
About 133 of Delta's MD88/90 airplanes will be equipped by
the first half of 2009, along with some other 200 Boeings
"Delta remains committed to providing a travel
experience that maximizes the time our customers spend with us onboard by
offering them even more productivity options," said Delta CEO Richard Anderson,
in a statement.
Aircell has been doing airborne communications for 17 years
now and Delta Air Lines Inc. is very confident in its actual possibilities to
make this possible for their customers.
