A former professional wrestler in the United States Senate?
Not going to happen...as Jesse Ventura said that he was not going to run as an independent
candidate for United States Senate. According to Reuters, former Minnesota governor and
former pro wrestler Jesse Ventura announced that he would stay out of the race.
Jesse Ventura aka “The Body” was governor form 1999 until
2003 and he was thinking about running for the Senate but, after talking to his
family, he realized it would meant more exposure and less privacy.
“My children were attacked by the Minnesota media when I was governor. I fear
very much that they will be attacked again,” said Jesse Ventura, according to The
New York Times.
He announced his decision to Larry King, on CNN Monday
night, saying that it would take “an act of God” to make him change his mind.
He also said that it “was an agonizing decision” for him but he spoke to his
daughter and she made him realize it was for the best to stay out of the race.
Another reason which led to this decision was the fact that
he realized that surfing was “much more honorable than the Senate,” said “The
Body.
“It was a difficult decision but it came down to almost this
-- surfing versus the Senate and I found surfing to be much more honorable than
the Senate. The ocean doesn't lie to you. The waves don't lie to you. My government
does lie to me today,” said Ventura,
according to Reuters.
If he had entered the race, Jesse Ventura would have
challenged incumbent senator Coleman, a Republican, and Al Franken, a Democrat
and comedian.
