Super Smash Bros. Brawl Doesn't Work? Nintendo Will Fix It!

Stayed up late to get your hands on the hottest game this month, Super Smash Brothers: Brawl, and got the ‘friendly’ message: “Unable to read disc?” Well, Nintendo can fix that for you, as they announced on their website.

“Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialized clearing equipment that can resolve this problem.”

For all customers that have been confronted with this situation, Nintendo advises them to attempt neither cleaning the console, nor trying to return the disc hoping it will fix the problem. Moreover, the company said the cleaning process shouldn’t normally alter the stored data in any way, but if that should be the case, customers will be able to re-download the Virtual Console games from the Wii Shop Channel for free.

The offer only covers the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii or U.S. territories such as Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands), which makes us wonder: how about customers from other countries? Hopefully, they won’t be experiencing such problems.

Nintendo’s Super Smash Brothers became a worldwide hit ever since its first launch in 1999, selling millions of copies worldwide. Last month alone, it managed to sell one million copies in just 11 days, a new record among Nintendo Wii titles.

Retail stores across the United States prepared for the launch of Super Smash Brothers: Brawl by staying open late: “It’s amazing that after all these years we get to see these two much loved characters ( Mario and Sonic) compete against each other in another fantastic title,” Mike Hayes, President and CEO of SEGA Europe said last year.
