Developed by Nintendo EAD Tokyo and published by Nintendo,
Super Mario Galaxy for Wii became a popular title even before landing on
stores’ shelves. The highly expected month of the year for Mario’s fans has
come and the popular video game has started the launch. Obviously Super Mario
Galaxy first hit Japan, on
November 1, but after about two long weeks the game began its launch in the United States
as well.
For some lucky areas of the United States, the game became
available yesterday, while the less lucky fans will have the game launched in
their home towns only tomorrow. Super Mario Galaxy will then reach Europe, on
November 16, and Australia,
only on November 29.
Super Mario Galaxy represents the first 3D platformer in the
action series after Super Mario 64 and Super Marion Sunshine. What’s also new
with Super Mario Galaxy is that it now features a co-star mode, which allows a
second player to collect startbits for shooting at enemies.
The game’s hero, Mario, is followed on his quest through the
Universe to save Princess Peach from his nemesis, Bowser. The deeper you go in
the game, the more galaxies you have the opportunity to visit. The gamers will
also experience a wide range of interesting effects in the new Mario game,
which was first shown at the E3 summit from 2006.
Super Mario Galaxy has enjoyed so much pre-release
popularity that the United
States’ GameStop stores were hit by no less
than 400,000 pre-orders even before November 2007. The reviews that the new
Mario game has received have also been extremely positive.
"Super Mario Galaxy is a game that everybody can play,
whether you've been a Mario fan for 25 years or you just started playing Wii
Sports," George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of
marketing and corporate communications, said. "It's an easy favorite for
game of the year and should stand as one of the best -- and most beautiful --
games of all time," he added.
Mario has really made history and that is why the most
recent game of the series represents a strong reason for gamers of all ages to
start playing again.
