Sun Microsystems Prepares Its JavaFX Mobile Platform

Sun Microsystems announced the upcoming release of its JavaFX Mobile platform, which is being built on the existing Java ME platform. This represents the second phase of a three-stage project looking to make software design easier and also modernizing its Java technology.

JavaFX offers a unified development and deployment model for all sorts of rich applications across the desktop, browser, and mobile devices.

Param Singh, the senior director of Java marketing at Sun, stated that JavaFX could be available in mobile phones by the end of 2009, but there is a chance that the release date might be pushed for 2010. According to him, phone users will "see applications that look great, that are very expressive, but that also are very functional." He also added that

The new platform will be working very well alongside the company’s Java Micro Edition technology, which was previously released. This will help users access the phones’ subsystems which include the Bluetooth communication technology, the camera, and the GPS location system. Among the companies announced to endorse JavaFX are handset manufacturers Sony Ericsson and LG Electronics, and also service providers Sprint and Orange.
