Hip hop entrepreneur Marion “Suge”
Knight posted $19,000 bail Wednesday after being arrested on assault and drug
charges in a Las Vegas
parking lot – he was allegedly found by police violently beating his girlfriend
of three years.
Marion Knight, founder of the now bankrupt Death Row
Records, was arrested and taken into custody Wednesday morning when Las Vegas police was
called to a parking lot where the entrepreneur was reportedly hitting a woman
and holding a knife.
“A citizen sees the beating in a parking lot, police get
there fast, they see him beating her. It’s a good solid case,” Las Vegas police Lt. Chris
Carroll said, as quoted by the Associated Press.
Carroll said Knight, whom he estimated to be twice the size
of the woman, was “on top of her, actually in the act of violently beating her
when the officers arrived, with the knife in his hand.”
Police spokesman Jacinto Rivera said at least one of the
officers drew a Taser gun as they approached the ongoing scuffle. Knight however
dropped the folding knife he had been holding and was taken into custody
without incident.
The woman, whose identity has not been revealed by the
police but who said she was Knight’s girlfriend of three years, was taken to
hospital. She received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, Carroll
said. She had not been stabbed.
Knight was booked on charges of assault with a deadly
weapon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of dangerous drugs
without a prescription (Knight had Ecstasy and hydrocodone on him upon being
arrested), reports the Associated Press.
The 43-year-old Knight posted $19,000 bail. He is scheduled
to appear in Las Vegas Justice
Court on Sept. 26.
Knight and his girlfriend ended up in the parking lot after
they reportedly quarreled in their car, according to Rivera. Knight was
driving, they got into an argument, he allegedly punched his girlfriend in the
head and she grabbed the steering wheel so as to stop the car, after which she
jumped out of the vehicle.
