Mathematics and science are vital for a nation’s wellbeing and it is crucial for students to learn these sciences well as they provide the basis for scientific evolution and breakthrough, make the economy more stable and make the nation as a whole more competitive.
According to the latest studies American students are progressing in the field of advanced mathematics, while the level in science remains flat.
Still, the best at exact sciences are the students from Asian countries like Singapore and Taiwan proving that their school system works and pointing to the overall evolution of these states.
On the other hand, comparing a huge country like the US with Singapore or Taiwan seems absurd, as the US is currently populated by 300 million people, learning in 50 different school systems, while the Asian countries are more compact, thus offering better results.
The progress reported by American students in the field of mathematics is welcomed and it clearly shows that the educational system is working, making Americans more competitive in the fields of exact sciences.
Even though better results in science were wished for, there is still time for perfecting the teaching system in order for better results. According to the study, fourth grade Hong Kong students and eight grade Taiwan students are the best in mathematics, while Taiwan students excel in science at both levels.
A country’s educational system is very important as it teaches students how to live their lives, choose a profession that is best suited for them, thus enforcing the economy overall.
