When someone is different the best thing to do is to accept
this fact. Well, kindergarten teacher Wendy Portillo had her own methods to
cope with differences between kids.
When a kid is different he should be voted out of the class.
Yes, the Morningside Elementary School teacher proposed that every student voted
on whether to let 5-year-old Alex Barton in the classroom.
According to Scripps News, the boy was being tested for
Asperger's Disorder, a type of autism.
The teacher asked every student to say what they didn’t like
about Alex and with 14 votes pro and 2 con, the kid was thrown out of the
class. He spent the rest of the day in the nurse’s office.
When Melissa Barton, his mother, arrived at the school to
pick him up, she noticed that he was very sad and upset.
“He was incredibly upset,” she said, according to Scripps
News. She also said that she was considering taking some legal actions against
the teacher.
Barton said that, because of his condition, her son had had
some disciplinary issues.
She filed a complaint but the state attorney's office said
there was no evidence for child abuse and no criminal charges were filed, said Port
St. Lucie spokeswoman Michelle Steele.
Barton said that she won’t bring her child to Morningside
Elementary School anymore.
The teacher was reassigned after the event.
