Stooges’ Ron Asheton, Passed Away at 60

The musical world is at grief again, as another prominent musician has passed away. After mourning the loss of Richard Wright of Pink Floyd, it is now time to pay our respects to Stooges’ guitarist and co-founder Ron Asheton.

Ron Asheton was one of the original members and founders of popular psychedelic indie punk-rock band The Stooges, along with the legendary Iggy Pop and his brother, Scott Asheton.

According to sources, it seems that Asheton’s personal assistant was the one who contacted the police yesterday, Monday, January the 5th. According to the statement issued by the guitarist’s assistant, Ron Asheton had been unreachable for days.

Police officers arrived at the scene, namely Ron Asheton’s house in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They got to the house early Tuesday morning, where they found the body of the 60-year-old guitarist. After their initial investigation, they stated that the cause of death remains undetermined. They added that they hadn’t seen signs that might suggest any kind of foul play. In order to get a conclusive verdict on the cause of death, investigators are expecting the results of the autopsy and toxicology tests.

Asheton formed The Stooges in Ann Arbor in 1967 with his brother Scott on drums, frontman Iggy Pop and bassist Dave Alexander, and his rough sounding guitar riffs were featured on the band's first two albums, which went on to become cult classics.

Asheton left the band in 1973 and went on to play in a series of bands, including the New Order and Destroy All Monsters. He played on Pop's solo album in 2003, the same year that Rolling Stone magazine ranked him at number 29 on their 100 greatest guitarists of all time list.
