After eight years of absence, the rock band Stone Temple
Pilots reunited and officially announced their much talked about North American
tour.
The four musicians said the tour was supposed to start on
May 17, with the band performing at the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus,
OH, and would finish in November 2008, after having encompassed more than 65
dates.
To officially celebrate their reunion, the band played an
intimate concert at the Harry Houdini Estate in Los Angeles on April 7.
According to NME, STP only
played six songs and left, but the enthusiastic fans, chanting their name
convinced them to return and perform another hit.
The band said they also planned to revive their website and
launch a fan club program that will grant members easy access to tickets for
the band’s tour.
After STP split in 2003, vocalist Scott Weiland joined former
members of Guns ‘N’ Roses and formed the band Velvet Revolver.
But, more than two weeks ago, Weiland made the announcement
of his imminent departure from Velvet Revolver during a concert of the band's in
Glasgow, Scotland, when he told the crowd they were witnessing something
special, namely the last-ever Velvet Revolver tour.
Soon after Weiland made the announcement, the rest of the
band, guitarists Slash and Dave Kushner, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt
Sorum, released a statement confirming the split, explaining that they could tolerate Weiland’s behavior no
more. They also insisted that Weiland was not 100
percent dedicated to the band’s music and fans, although Weiland denied the
accusations.
The newly reunited Stone Temple Pilots are scheduled to
appear on television on May 1 on“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the Associated Press
reports.
