Still No Charges in The Case of the 13-year-old MySpace Suicide

One year after 13-year-old Megan Meier‘s suicide, her family still finds no rest.  Concerned about the faith of other teenagers just like Megan, the Meiers are publicly demanding for measures to be taken in.

The controversy of this suicide hasn’t stopped. Lori Drew, held responsible for Megan’s suicide by the community, claims her innocence. Her lawyer stated though that she denied sending hurtful things to the teenager through the internet, and the evidence was not solid enough to allow the prosecutors to press charges. But if the police won’t handle the matter, the community will.

The residents in Drew’s neighborhood are demanding for Drew and her family to move out. Last year, after the accusations against her started, someone threw a brick through her window and some of the interviewed neighbors said that someone could be tempted to take matters into their own hands if police doesn’t do anything about it.

On Friday the Drew’s attorney stated: “During this investigation, the Drew family has not commented to the media. Now that the investigation is concluded, we wish to issue this statement […] Contrary to statements reported in various news media around the nation in recent weeks, Lori Drew did not create or direct anyone to create the Josh Evans MySpace account. Although she was aware of the account, Lori Drew never sent any messages to Megan or to anyone else using this MySpace account […]Lori Drew was not aware of any mean, nasty or negative comments made by anyone against Megan until after Megan took her own life. […] Lori Drew has been a high-profile target of extreme criticism for things she did not do. This has caused considerable damage to the reputation of the Drew family, both in our community and across the nation. […] Lori is saddened that businesses that advertised with her company have been harassed in ways that have impacted them both professionally and personally.”

Meanwhile, Megan’s parents have no rest until justice will be done, not only for their daughter, but for all the teenagers whose lives can be easily affected through the internet.
