Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd are set to say in unison “I
ain’t afraid of no ghosts” in an upcoming third installment of the 1980s
comedic sci-fi franchise “Ghostbusters,” reports trade paper Variety.
Actors Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie
Hudson became the most famous ghostbusters in the world in 1984, when director
Ivan Reitman released “Ghostbusters” via Columbia Pictures.
The four portrayed New York City
parapsychologists who set up their own business in a deserted firehouse,
complete with ghost-exterminating equipment created by their very own minds and
hands.
The film was a box office success, becoming the year’s top
grossing movie in the U. S.,
and received impressive positive reviews. A sequel thus confidently followed in
1989 and although less admired by film critics, its path to the predecessor’s
success was apparently already paved, as it ruled at the box office.
So it only makes sense that a third installment could be
just as glorious, the more so if the original cast members are willing to face
those creepy outlandish creatures again.
According to trade paper Variety, all four original
ghostbusters will work in the upcoming third film. As to Reitman’s
participation, this is as of yet unconfirmed.
The Emmy-nominated Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who transported
“The Office” to the small screen in the U.S.
from the UK,
are set to co-write the script.
Columbia Pictures has not confirmed yet whether it indeed
plans to produce such a project.
