Steve Jobs’ health condition will most certainly be one of the main points of focus at Apple’s "Let's Rock" event held today in San Francisco along with the software developer’s big update to its iPhone OS and the company’s new iPods.
Speculation about Apple’s Chief Executive Officer just won’t quit. The error made by Bloomberg about two weeks ago when it accidentally published Steve Jobs’ obituary threw gasoline on a fire that was already burning high.
At the San Francisco event, Jobs will make his first public appearance since Apple’s WWDC held in June. Analysts present at today’s event will surely be interested in Apple’s new releases, but they will also be closely watching the CEO’s health condition, a factor that has been very strongly tied with the financial health of the Cupertino, California-based company.
The numerous rumors regarding Jobs health state have made investors and analysts very curious about which Steve Jobs will go on stage today to present the company’s new iPods and possibly a new music subscription service.
However, most analysts believe that Jobs simple presence on stage at "Let's Rock" will be enough to counter the numerous rumors and send the company’s shares higher. Apple’s CEO probably wouldn’t choose to appear at an event like the one in San Francisco if his health wouldn’t permit him to do so.
"While some investors are concerned that Jobs will not deliver the keynote, we have reason to believe he will," Gene Munster analyst Piper Jaffray said.
"Therefore, we believe his health has improved since the June event, which would be a positive for the stock."
Nevertheless, Jobs talked about his condition to the New York Times after his keynote at WWDC ’08. He acknowledged that he had been sick and it was more than a “common bug,” as Apple had put it, but it wasn’t something so serious that it would affect his ability to lead Apple. Jobs also mentioned that the pancreatic cancer surgery he underwent in 2003 causes permanent weight loss in most patients and he made no exception, but it’s nothing to worry about.
