ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson said that he
was considering talking to Jay Leno, in order to propose him to join ABC. While
Jimmy Kimmel was playing the role of a reporter, Stephen McPherson said that he
couldn’t believe NBC was letting the “Tonight Show” host go.
“I can't believe they're going to let him go,” said McPherson,
according to the New York Daily News.
If Jay Leno would come to ABC, Jimmy Kimmel’s show, who is
the current late-night man, would be moved to a later hour.
Questions like “Are you at all afraid that if you replace
Jimmy Kimmel, he might do something crazy to you and your car? or “If you were
even to talk to Jay Leno, wouldn't that be like contract tampering? Isn't that
illegal? Can you go to jail for that?” were flying from Kimmel’s mouth, making
the touchy subject a lot easier to discuss.
Stephen McPherson assured people that if Jay Leno came to
ABC, “Jimmy will be involved in those discussions,” because there would be
enough room for the both of them.
“It would be a great pairing,” said ABC Entertainment
President.
Jay Leno would be available from 2010 and he will be
replaced at NBC by Conan O'Brien at the end of 2009.
Four years ago NBC announced that by 2009 Leno will be
replaced by Conan O’Brien. Kenneth Ziffren, Leno’s lawyer, said: “Jay
will of course honor his contract obligations to NBC. Jay isn’t talking to
anyone about anything and won’t be until it’s contractually proper,” the New
York Times reported.
Leno is being chased by major network companies like ABC and
Fox as his contract with NBC is coming to an end.
