According to the Indiana state
police Peru District, an Indiana
State trooper was killed
on Sunday when his car crashed into a tree while he was on duty.
Trooper Daniel Barrett, 25, was on duty and was moving
northbound on U.S. 31 around 10:45 on Sunday night near the Fulton-Marshall
county line. His car moved to the east side of the road and hit a tree on the
side of the driver’s door.
He was declared dead at scene of the accident. He was a
trooper since July 2007 when he graduated from the 67th Indiana State
Police Recruit
Academy.
Barrett graduate in 2002 from the Logansport High School.
He took courses on criminal justices at Indiana
University and Ivy Tech and he was
appointed to patrol in Fulton County, that’s 90 miles north of Indianapolis.
Barrett is the 43rd officer of the Indiana State
Police that has died in the line of duty.
Before he began his work as a trooper he used to work as a
corrections officer.
Master Trooper Earl McCullough is due to start a preliminary
investigation to see why Barrett’s car left the road. The investigation is till
on.
On Monday a press conference is scheduled at the Indiana
State Police Post in Peru
to talk more about the accident.
