Some people manage to find love, no matter the race, no
matter the sex and the age, and stick with it for 21 years and counting. Former
Star Trek actor George Takei has finally married his better half, Brad Altman,
54, in a ceremony that celebrated their love and respect for each other for so
many years that have passed and also years to come.
The happy event was hosted by the Japanese American
National Museum
and was a delightful mix of cultures. The Buddhist wedding included a
traditional Japanese tea ceremony in the middle of a circle made out of yellow
roses and lily petals, a Japanese Koto harp and a bagpipe procession, Native
American wedding bands. The couple walked down the aisle in matching white
tuxedos with black pants and bow-ties to the tune of "One Singular
Sensation" from the Broadway musical "A Chorus Line."
Both Takei and Altman wrote their own vows, because, of
course, after a 21-year-old relationship, they are bound to know a thing or two
about each other. This was also a moment they have been expecting for a long
time and what better way to cherish it, than by saying out-loud to the world
how much you love somebody?
Almost 200 friends and family were present at the event,
including former Star Trek stars, like best man Walter Koenig
("Chekhov") and matron of honor Nichelle Nichols ("Uhura").
Everybody must have felt lucky to be in the presence of such great love,
considering that not only Hollywood
relationships hardly ever last that long, but even regular folks find it hard
to love somebody for 21 years and still want more.
