The news of Star Jones' divorce from her husband of three years, banker Al Reynolds, finally hit the papers after she issued a statement to Entertainment Tonight asking for privacy during this difficult time of her life.
According to the Associated Press, a representative for Shadow PR, which represents the 46-year-old TV personality, confirmed that Jones quietly filed the paperwork, marked as a "Uncontested Matrimonial," on March 26 seeking to end the union.
"Several years ago I made an error in judgment by inviting the media into the most intimate area of my life. A month ago I filed for divorce. The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone’s life that requires privacy with one’s thoughts. I have committed myself to handling this situation with dignity and grace and look forward to emerging from this period as a stronger and wiser woman," Jones said in a statement to ET. However, she did not mention her reasons for wanting her marriage to the 39-year-old Reynolds over.
One of the first clues that Jones' marriage wasn't heading in the right direction emerged on March 17 when she reportedly threw Reynolds out of their New York home. At the time, they were said to be fighting over their finances after Jones lost her job as a talk show host at Court TV and Reynolds was said to be "either at the gym or playing golf" while she was off earning money.
Following her departure from the job, Reynolds continued loafing around, which marked the last drop for her, but there were also "rumors" claiming his sexual preferences were too much for her to take.
A source close to the former talk show host told Access the couple’s relationship has been in peril for some time, saying, "It hasn’t been an easy relationship for a while. There were all these rumors out there, all this speculation, which made it difficult for Star."
Jones and Reynolds exchanged vows in November 2004 in New York during a ceremony attended by over 500 guests, including then-coworkers Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Meredith Vieira and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, as well as other A-listers such as Kim Cattrall, Donald Trump, Vivica A. Fox and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Jones soon faced criticism regarding her lavish wedding for endlessly discussing it and plugging its sponsors, as a co-host on ABC's "The View." It was widely speculated that one the main reasons why Jones' contract wasn't renewed by the show in 2006 was all her wedding-talk.
"Every single wedding fantasy I ever had was fulfilled, down to the most handsome groom in the history of the world," Reynolds said at the time.
A lawyer, Jones appeared on the ABC chat fest as a co-host from 1997 through June 27, 2006, when she left to start her own show on Court TV.
