She may have left ABC’s “The View” a couple of years ago,
but she’s not done talking. Star Jones joined the talk show in 1997 and thus
became “The View’s” first African-American co-host, a role that would increase
her public exposure considerably.
However, she decided to bring her “View” trip to an end in
2006, with a move that took the wind out of everyone’s sails, including Barbara
Walters’.
Now, Star Jones is ready to reveal details about her “The
View” experience, as well as her opinions with regard to her back then
co-hosts.
In an interview with Essence magazine, available in the
November issue of the publication, Star Jones said that her ex co-hosts Barbara
Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck were “hateful,” adding that Barbara
Walters “set me up.”
Star Jones lost 160 pounds in 2003 following a gastric
bypass surgery and this is the main reason why Barbara Walters mentioned her
former co-host in her memoir, “Audition,” in which she wrote that Jones made
her lie about the surgery she had undergone, while she claimed openly that she
had lost weight by exercising and eating healthy.
In the interview, Star Jones also referred to her
ex-husband, Al Reynolds, who has publicly admitted that he is still in love
with Jones. “I’m not in love with him,” she told the magazine.
Although she wouldn’t discuss the nature of her relationship
with chef Herb Wilson, whom she was seen kissing in the stands at the U.S.
Open, she said that she was open to a new passion. “I’m ready to love 24/7. I
want happiness,” Star Jones said.
After losing her self-titled Court TV show last year, Jones
is negotiating to make a non-scripted television comeback. Who knows? Maybe
this time she’ll score big.
