Springsteen To Squeeze In ’12 Minute Party’ at Halftime

For Bruce Springsteen, who rocked the Giants Stadium 19 times, the halftime show at the Super Bowl is just one more big gig. Sunday, he will do 13 live minutes as the halftime entertainment at the Super Bowl on NBC.

After weeks of gearing up and seemingly limitless promotion, Super Bowl XLIII finally kicks off on Sunday, and the Boss with his E Street Band will be there to make it happen.

Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers will start off at about 3.25 p. m. at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa , Fla. , and as NBC Chairman Dick Ebersol put it, “The Super Bowl is much more than a game.”

In one very rare press conference, (his first in more than 20 years) Bruce Springsteen was as cool as ever.

“I don’t know anything about it.” Springsteen said about football. “I did play the game in my backyard around the summer of 1958. I haven’t played a lot since. I’ll date myself. When I hear Steelers, I think Terry Bradshaw.”

Sporting black jeans, a black crewneck sweater and black boots, the rock star continued to joke around about his lack of football knowledge, that fact that his group is still together — and its members still alive — and the tremendous year he's having personally and professionally.

“You’ll have a lot of crazy football fans,” said Springsteen, who helped anchor last weekend's deep-freeze musical celebration of Barack Obama's inauguration in D.C., “But you won’t have Lincoln staring over your shoulder. That takes some of the pressure off.”

Earlier this month, Springsteen stopped by to accept a Golden Globe for his song “The Wrestler.” He is also nominated for a couple of Grammys on the show that will air Feb. 8.
