“Spring Breakdown” And Its Sundance Premiere

Ryan Shiraki returned to the Sundance Film Festival this year with the very much-talked about comedy "Spring Breakdown" that finally premiered late Friday night at the festival.

The storyline starring Amy Poehler, Parker Posey and the film's co-writer Rachel Dratch, revolves around three thirty-something friends who break the monotony of their uninspired lives by vacationing on an island that's a popular spring break getaway for college co-eds.

Dratch said she wrote the film with director Ryan Shiraki with the goal of creating a "broad goofy comedy that stars women."

As far as your chance of ever seeing “Spring Breakdown” in a movie theater, Poehler said: "Warner's sister is going to put it out. I think?" Really? "Maybe they still will. Like I said, I think there's an arm of Warner Independent or Warner's sister that's going to put it out. It's going to be Warner Independent Independent."

In 2008 the industry fell on hard times and Warner Bros film studio cut production and streamlined its operations by eliminating units like Warner Independent and absorbing New Line Cinema as the U.S. economy slipped into recession.

Last year Poehler starred in the movie "Baby Mama" with former "Saturday Night Live" partner Tina Fey. Next month she begins filming a new NBC comedy series from two of the producers behind the popular workplace satire "The Office."

The series, which is set to premiere in April, stars Poehler as Leslie Knope, who heads up a small town parks department in Indiana.
