Spore Challenges The Sims’ Popularity

You just loved The Sims, didn’t you? Will Wright, the creator of the most popular video game ever, is back with a fresh game. If you enjoyed Electronic Arts Inc.’s franchise which made you walk in God’s shoes as you thoroughly organized the homes and lives of your virtual characters, Spore is not only a game, it is also a source of gaining some knowledge of evolutionary biology.

While The Sims was more of a fascinating lure for women, as more than half of the video game’s players are women, Spore may appeal more to representatives of the opposite gender. Having been designed in approximately four years, the new video game is a life creation simulator where players can bring creatures into existence from DNA and afterwards control their entire evolution, being able to create aliens, spacecraft and planets. They also can build empires and civilizations across galaxies, populated by all sorts of creatures only their imagination can think up.

“We spent a lot of time meeting a lot of scientists very early on in developing this game to find out what areas would be interesting to bring into the game,” designer of the game Will Wright informed Reuters.

Wright added that Spore was conceived as a cross-media franchise, which will be leading to consoles in the future, Reuters reported.

The video game is due to be launched on September 7, the same date an iPhone game and a National Geographic documentary on the science behind the game are due for release.
