BOOM BLOX, a game developed by Electronic Arts, and with Steven Spielberg’s personal touch, is finally out for Nintendo's Wii and costs $50. The game was initially intended for kids aged 8 to 12, but it has been described as the perfect game for the whole family. BOOM BLOX is already available in North America as of May 6, and is soon to be released to the rest of the world, on May 8 in Europe, on May 13 across Asia and May 22 for Japan.
Spielberg, himself a gamer, alleges the groundbreaking Wii technology inspired him since he tried his hand at tennis at 2006's E3 video game convention. "I suddenly realized there were all sorts of applications for this tactile technology," Spielberg told USA Today.
The game revolves around knocking down blocks with different values, a multiplayer puzzler that challenges gamers to find the perfect strategy to boost their points but at the same time, prevent the adversary from earning points on his expense. Reviews are very good so far, some considering it the best game released this year for the Wii.
“Boom Box” features over 300 engaging levels, 30 characters and single-player, co-op and versus gameplay, and will be the first of its kind to feature a collaboration with the famous film maker. Players will be also able to use the game's editor to craft their own levels.
It won’t be the last Spielberg-EA games, as the two agreed to a project that included a total of three video games. A second project, code-named “LMNO,” was announced as a game for Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and has been described as a contemporary epic action-adventure game focusing on a special relationship between the player and a non-playing character.
