It would be simple to introduce
Steven Spielberg to another person. You would have to simply bring Spielberg in
front of that person, he would say “Hello!” and that would do it. That is
because Steven Spielberg is so famous, that any introductory words would be
senseless. Spielberg is Spielberg, one of the best directors of all times!
Already a living legend, the
Oscar-winning director has chosen to break some personal myths (and to create
others, probably) by accepting Richard Schickel’s challenge. Produced by
Schickel, “Spielberg on Spielberg” features Spielberg talking to an unseen and
unheard interrogator about his career.
He tells one of the most impressive
American success stories: that of a young filmmaker who was brave enough to
dare dreaming and who would eventually give the world some of the most famous
movies, such as “Jaws”, “Jurassic
Park”, “E.T. The
Extra-Terrestrial” or “Schindler’s List” and “Save Private Ryan”.
As Spielberg has refused to
record audio commentary tracks for DVDs of his movies, “Spielberg on Spielberg”
would be the first time he talks about his works in any kind of detail.
Spielberg talks for 90 minutes
about other directors and friends and about his well-known movies, commenting
on other works too. For all of these and much more, TCM’s documentary is
impatiently expected by the director’s fans and not only.
The creator of the
sensitive alien buddy E.T., of Indiana Jones, of the scary white shark and so
on has marked the lives of many generations, while his works have the unique
property of not getting old.
