Recently, it has been announced that a musical based on the comic book hero Spider-Man had been scheduled to open on Broadway in 2010.
The musical, “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” would include the story concerning the superhero’s origins and it has been reported that it would feature music and lyrics by U2 members Bono and The Edge.
Moreover, the production will be directed by Julie Taymor, the one who was responsible for Disney’s Lion King, as well, while the musical has been set to debut in February 2010 at the Hilton Theatre, the preview performances having been scheduled to begin the following January.
It has been reported that the Spider-Man musical accounts for the most expensive Broadway production ever made, its cost amounting to $40 million.
For the time being, no details concerning the cast or the villains that would be featured in the musical have been disclosed.
In the three installments of the Spider-Man movie franchise that have been released so far, actor Tobey Maguire was the one to portray the superhero, while he is also expected to appear in the fourth production, as well, which has been scheduled to debut in 2011.
Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man was created by scripter-editor Stan Lee and artist-plotter Steve Ditko, who brought forth the character as an orphan being raised by his Aunt May.
