Stan Lee, the creator of the legendary Spider-Man movies and comic books was sued by the shareholders of a company and asked for an amount of $750 million over film and book profits. Marvel, who also created The Incredible Hulk and The X-Men, was accused of also violating the copyright, which was transferred to the company in 1998.

Supposedly some “ridiculous claims,” as described by Marvel, the legal papers were filed in U.S, District Court in Manhattan. In addition, Lee had won another case with Marvel over the profits gained on his creations. Stan Lee Media Inc, the company which is taking legal action against Lee was founded in 1990 and went bankrupt in 2001.

In 2006 the organization resurfaced and in 2007 Lee sued it on charges of cybersquatting and copyright infringement. But the company continued to take legal action against Marvel through a claim over the ownership rights to a bunch of comic superheroes.

Martin Garbus, the lawyer of the company, stated that Lee agreed with an arrangement that stopped them from gaining any kind of profits from films or other merchandise. He added that the money should have gone to their company. Mark Williams, Lee’s legal representative, stated that he can’t wait for a positive pledge for Stan Lee.

The characters created by Marvel have produced a lot of blockbuster success, as Spider-Man or The X-Men series. The three sequels of Spider-Man having Tobey Maguire as main character, gained more than $1 billion.
