Tony Sparano is expected to be
officially announced as the head coach for the Miami dolphins, after being seen
in Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday aboard a Dolphins’ jet. It is for the second time
that the Cowboys assistant head coach came for discussions with Miami officials,
following the January 5 meeting.
No official comments have been
made by any of the Miami team representatives, but an official announcement
could be expected on Wednesday. Sparano would thus become the fifth coach the
Dolphins have hired in the past three years, as stability is apparently hard to
find these days.
Sparano, 46, became free of
contract as soon as the playoff against the Giants ended with a disappointing loss
for the Cowboys, who apparently decided to split paths. At the same time, the Miami
Dolphins had previously fired Cam Cameron after a disastrous 1-15 season.
And as a sign of appreciation, Sparano
couldn’t have just come on his own to Miami. Instead, the Dolphins general manager
Jeff Ireland personally travelled to Dallas to pick him up in the team’s
private jet, which could mean Sparano and the Dolphins are likely to reach an
agreement.
However, the decision would come
as no surprise for anyone, as the Dolphins’ desire to put Sparano as head of
the team was already being rumored. Apparently the Miami weren’t Sparano’s only
choice however, after he negotiated with Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens
as well in the past few weeks.
An official announcement is
still pending, but the two meetings couldn’t have resulted in nothing, and
Sparano may be heading to a new job in Miami, and perhaps lift the team up
where its officials and fans want it, and erase the memory of a unsuccessful
season for the Dolphins.
