Sony's New PSP Firmware Includes Google Search

Sony's PSP firmware version 4.00 will add Google Search to the gadget, among other new features. The new search option will be included in the XMB (Xross Media Bar). There are several other enhancements in the PlayStation Portable firmware 4.00, such as the ability to change the playback speed of video played from the Memory Stick PRO Duo card.

The short announcement does not give out a lot of information. There is apparently no launch date yet. Google Search will bring up the same results as on any other computer, and the option will be available by clicking the XMB's Network icon and then the new Internet Search icon.

The last 20 searches will be memorized in a history function. Of course, Google Search will only work on the PlayStation Portable gadget as long as it's connected to the Internet via a wireless access point or Wi-Fi hotspot.

It looks like the search giant has expanded into yet another territory. Google apparently comes up everywhere these days, which is good. However, let's hope that the continuous rise will not alter its principles from the early days. One Microsoft is more than enough!
