Officials at Tokyo-based Sony Corporation have unveiled the new „non notebook” Vaio at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that began Thursday, January 8, Reuters has reported. According to the latter, the new gadget weighs 1.4 pounds and is as thin as a cell phone, the company having recently advertised it on its website as a notebook that fits perfectly into a purse or jacket pocket.
Reuters informed that Sony’s new Vaio would come fitted with Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system and would support all the software programs that full-sized notebooks did, while its price has been announced at $900.
Moreover, the Vaio P-series notebook has an 8-inch screen with a 1600 x 768 resolution, uses the Atom Z chip that clocks out at 1.33GHz and features either a standard 60GB hard drive or 128GB SSD, 2GB of RAM (upgradable to 4GB), along with built-in 3G networking, 802.11n wireless and Bluetooth.
Usually, netbooks, which are gadgets similar to Sony’s one, are marketed for approximately $300 to $400, which makes the new Vaio stand out from the line of such low cost, mini-laptops optimized for Internet use.
Company officials have informed that the new ultra-light PCs would be available for pre-orders on Thursday, whereas beginning the following month, they would be sold at major retailers in the United States.
