It looks like 2009 will have the privilege of hosting what seems the most exciting edition of CES ever. There are already all sorts of rumors and semi-official announcements of yummy devices, gadgets and contraptions from many important companies. So here’s another one, and this time, we’re talking about the giant Sony itself.
The Japanese company will most likely unveil two brand new Touchscreen Walkman personal media player models featuring 16GB and 32GB memories. So it stands to reason that Sony’s aim is to put some spokes in Apple’s wheels, and they might just stand a chance to take off some of the luster from the iPod.
According to IT Pro Portal, the average LCD screen cannot compare with the visual superpowers of Sony’s unnamed champion: a 3-inch OLED screen far more able to display color richness, and 100% color reproduction across a wider viewing angle. Although there are also sources talking about a 3.3 inch 400x240 WXGA screen.
But that’s far from being all: Sony’s device will feature Youtube functionality, Wi-Fi (with support for WPA and WEP), plus audio podcast subscription and support for the following audio and video formats: MP3, WMA, AAC, PCM, AVC (h.264), MPEG-4 and WMV. Users will also be able to buy MP3s directly from Amazon, thanks to Sony’s partnership with the online retailer and savor them via the in-built S-master digital amplifier.
On the web side of things, this hi-tech fun-focused device is said to keep up with iPod, so it will come with a web browser (possibility of Flash support unknown for now).
