One of the biggest announcements made by Sony at the International Consumer Electronics Show was upcoming release of its new notebook, which some might to a netbook, because of its reduced measurments.
Still, the company’s officials claim that the device must be tagged as a notebook, as its system manages to cover significantly more tasks than a netbook, which is usually described as a device that cannot handle a full desktop or notebook OS.
The new P-series laptop weighs 1.4 pounds and is under an inch thich, with a 60 Giga Bytes hard-disk drive that can be exchanged with a 64 GB or a 128 GB solid-state drive. It utilises Sony’s trademark XMB interface, it also features integrated mobile broadband connectivity, A2DP Bluetooth and GPS.
Even though the keyboard is a bit small, it can certainly get the job done, but it will take a little time to get used to it. The 8 inch screen provides a great resolution - 1600 by 768 pixels but it might turn out to be a bit too small for some. When it comes to the notebook segment, Sony might be the market’s number one with this release, as it managed to amaze the public with all its applicabilities, included in such a small frame.
The device’s price will start at $899 and it is scheduled to ship out starting with February. More details should be released by the end of the month, with Sony carefully preparing the official release.
