Sony Playstation Network May Have Been Hacked

Sony has found a vulnerability which in theory could have allowed a hacker to gain unauthorized access to personal information on the Sony Playstation Store through PCs, a content download service of the company's Playstation Network. The security flaw, which has been alredy fixed, allowed a potential attacker to change a user's password and thus gain acces to his or her account.

Sony has urged all Playstation Store users to log in to their accounts and check if everything is in order. The company reminded that Playstation Network accounts do not display entire credit card numbers, so any unauthorized access to Playstation Network accounts is very unlikely to compromise credit card accounts.

Sony is currently investigating the issue and will attempt to contact directly all those whose accounts may have been subject to hacking through this security flaw. If you find yourself locked out of your Playstation Network account for no reason, the company urges you to reset the password immediately and contact Sony.

The Playstation Store through PC was unveiled by Sony last year in November. According to a statement released by Sony there are 2.9 million registered PlayStation Network accounts in North America.
