Sony’s PS3 update has been cleared of all technical issues and the company is ready to release firmware version 2.41 as soon as this Wednesday, CGV notes. However, Sony didn’t make any official announcement to confirm the new update.

Last week Sony was forced to pull the v2.40 firmware after receiving numerous complaints from consumers having problems with installing the update. Until now, Sony has failed to provide any explanation for the technical issues surrounding the v2.40 release.

In a statement issued last week, Sony said they decided to temporarily take firmware 2.40 offline after receiving “a low volume of calls” from customers, adding that they are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features from the v2.40 update.

Not all PS3 customers reported having these issues, but those who have experienced them reported them on all PS3 versions (of 40GB, 60GB and 80GB). The new update has already appeared on a number of sites, but for those who wish to avoid any other technical issues, it’s best to wait for the official release.

The PS3 firmware v2.40 allowed the use of XMB and also introduced support for trophies, somewhat similar to those in Xbox 360.

The release is part of Sony's strategy for this year. According to Sony, its game business is not an issue anymore, and despite some economic uncertainties, things are getting better and better. The company estimated in May this year that both its videogame and TV sales will have a significant improvement in profitability.

The fourth quarter, ended March 31, brought Sony a ¥374.5 billion in operating profit ($3.6 billion), which is a major step ahead, compared to the ¥71.8 billion a year earlier, when the PS3 business was a little shaky.

“Global sales of PlayStation 3 gained momentum since the launch of the new model [in October] and the price cut, allowing the overall game business to turn around in the second half to March alone,” Sony chief financial officer Nobuyuki Oneda said in a Forbes interview in May this year.
