Things may not be looking so bright right now for Sony Ericsson, but that is about to change once they put in practice a new strategy, unveiled at the end of last week during the GSMA Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona.
The cell phone maker said the Entertainment Unlimited strategy will reinforce its position as the communication entertainment brand, representing the pinnacle of what the company has been working towards since the start of the joint venture in 2001.
The cell phone is no longer just a communication device; it reunites so many other elements, and entertainment is perhaps the one weighing the most. This is why Sony Ericsson has promised to integrate rich content, unique applications and best in class entertainment experiences in its future launches.
The first representative of the new strategy is the W995 Walkman phone, presented in Barcelona. The W995 goes beyond the cell phone experience; it’s an entertainment system that makes it easy to communicate with a PC, offers exceptional clarity with its 8.1-megapixel camera, and enough memory to enjoy the best in music and imaging.
In addition to that, Sony Ericsson also unveiled a new mobile phone concept, called Idou (this name will likely turn into something else upon launch), a device that focuses on the entertainment aspect, delivering a staggering 12.1-megapixel camera , Xenon flash, and is based on the Symbian Foundation operating system. The company confirmed that Idou will become available in the second half of the year.
