Sony announced during its conference at E3 that a lighter and brighter PlayStation Portable is on its way to stores’ shelves this fall.
Although previous media speculations indicated a complete redesign of the console, Sony sort of disappointed its fans by announcing only slight changes in the handheld’s capabilities, meaning that you’ll be able to connect your favorite portable entertainment system to your TV.
“The new PSP is a sleeker and more streamlined version of the popular original PSP system. It is 33 percent lighter and 19 percent slimmer than the current version, making the all-in-one mobile entertainment system even more convenient to carry around at less than 1/2-pound in weight and less than 3/4-inch in thickness. The new PSP system will also have a thinner, more efficient battery, 64MB of system memory and video-out capabilities allowing consumers to enjoy their games at 480 x 272 resolution and movies at full standard-definition resolution on any progressive scan TV.”
The improved version of PSP will come out in September, in two flavors: “Piano Black” and Core Pack. In addition to those, Sony prepared two new Collectors’ Edition: “ Ice Silver” PSP will be included in the Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack in September; and a limited edition “ Ceramic White” PSP, including a Darth Vader silk screen on the unit, will be featured in the Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment Pack launching in October.
SCEA is also moving forward with its plans to make the PSP a full entertainment platform by announcing more than 140 new software titles for its gadget by the end of this fiscal year, besides the movies released on Sony’s proprietary UMD disc.
