The fights in “Star Trek” are not confined to the on-screen battles. Recently, trouble has been brewing between William Shatner – who played Captain Kirk – and George Takei, who was “Sulu” on the show.
The problems began when Shatner didn’t receive an invitation to his former co-stars’ wedding. Takei married his partner in the last 21 years, Brad Altman, earlier this year in September. All the cast of “Star Trek” was invited, with the exception of the “captain”, William Shatner. Takei denies not inviting the “captain”, but Shatner claims he never received an invitation to the wedding. He also claims that this is proof to the animosity he thinks Takei always held towards him.
Shatner posted a video on The Shatner Project, where he announces that Takei suffers from a “sickness” and a “psychosis”. He also said that Takei came out of the closet only recently, which attests, in Shatner’s eyes, that Takei has issues with being truthful to his own self. He was also visibly upset that Takei didn’t find the time to publicly apologize to Shatner and make peace. Shatner concluded that he pities Takei.
On the other hand, Takei reiterates that he did invite Shatner, and is sad that the “captain” didn’t attend the wedding. The newly-wed also said that he hoped Shatner would join them in voting “no” on banning same-sex marriages in California.
The fight was conducted on the Internet, as the two haven’t had a chance to meet in person and solve their issues. It remains to be seen whether the Enterprise colleagues will settle their off-the-set differences or continue to sting each other with rude comments and allegations.
