About 43 people remained homeless
after a massive fire started Thursday in building eight at Dearborn
housing complex from Peabody.
According to The Daily Item of
Lynn, Fire Chief Steven Pasdon and State Fire Marshal Stephen
Coan said that the people from the building have been evacuated and no one was
hurt except for some pets that were believed to have died in the fire.
Now, some of the 700 people who were evacuated can begin
to come back into their apartments. More of them will return over the weekend,
but a large number of the residents will be allowed to return only on Wednesday .
According to the Boston Herald, some parts of the apartment
community still have the gas and electricity cut off. The crews began to
clean up the debris left by the fire.
Peabody Fire Chief Steven Pasdon said that authorities
have found out what started the fire: a cigarette that was thrown away on a
pile of mulch which was near a gas line.
Officials said that another fire started yesterday at the
site but was quickly put down. Authorities investigated some of the buildings
from the Dearborn housing complex to
see if the fire stops were in place.
