Last year, the usually glamorous Golden Globe ceremonies were suspended, and the red carpet event was replaced with a mere press conference. The reason for the change was that the Writers’ strike was taking place at the time, and most of the actors wanted to show their support for the writers – in fact, Hollywood narrowly escaped a Screen Actors’ Guild strike this year.
With the issue of the writers’ strike now resolved, it was time for the Golden Globes to rise up to their name, and even more so given last year’s absence.
That being said, the Golden Globes award ceremony took place last night, and it hosted a few surprises and confirmed some heavy speculation. One of the awards brought tears to many of the actors, directors and the like present at the ceremony – as most of you probably suspect, it was the prize awarded post-mortem to Heath Ledger, of Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, for his unique and masterful portrayal of the Joker in the Dark Knight.
The favorite of the ceremony seemed to be the dramatic movie “Slumdog Millionaire” won the awards for best dramatic picture, director, screenplay and score. Although it was supposedly out of the run for an Academy Award, but it seems like this cinematographic underdog is slowly rising to the top.
Another favorite of the Awards was Kate Winslet, who won two awards, one for dramatic actress in “Revolutionary Road” and the other for supporting actress in “The Reader.”
