Let’s face it: “Slumdog Millionaire” had an unbelievable success. The Oscar front-runner movie continued to win award after award, sweeping a few more pre-Oscar awards on Sunday.
According to Variey, the American Society of Cinematographers Award for feature film went to Anthony Dod Mantle, the movie’s director of photography. “Slumdog” also won an ACE Eddie Award for editor Chris Dickens in the dramatic feature category. The Hollywood Reporter said that at Saturday's Art Directors Guild Awards, production designers for Danny Boyle's India-set movie picked up an award in the contemporary movie category.
For the first time in the ACE Eddie Awards' 59-year history, an animated film won a feature prize. The film in the matter is none other than WALL E, whose editor, Stephen Schaffer, received the honors in the comedy/musical category.
Among other incredibly successful movies were awarded “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” for period film and of course, “The Dark Knight” which was recognized for fantasy film. All the recognitions of this last movie are probably the best way to admit the fact that the late Heath Ledger was an astonishing actor and make everybody realize what losing him actually means. The world of the movies will most definitely miss him.
Still, “Slumdog Millionaire” is not a nominee in the art direction category of the Academy Awards.
