After proclaiming rapper the Game’s “LAX” (Geffen) the top
seller of the week, Nielsen SoundScan revised its calculations and discovered
that the golden medal belonged to Slipknot’s “All Hope Is Gone” (Roadrunner).
The masked metal band beat the Game by a whisker, selling
239,516 copies of “All Hope Is Gone” during the week ended August 31, only
1,134 more units than the rapper’s “LAX,” which was purchased by 238,382 fans.
However, in the initial report, the Game’s “LAX” had outperformed the Des Moines band’s album
with 13 copies.
“All Hope Is Gone” represents the first No. 1 for the masked
Iowa rockers,
who claimed the second spot in 2004 with “Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses,” which
sold 243,000 copies in its opening week. In addition to this, Slipknot also
scored a No. 3 with 2001’s “Iowa,”
which opened to 255,000 copies.
According to the metal band’s Roadrunner Records label, the
album also opened at No.1 in Australia,
Austria, Canada, Finland,
New Zealand, Sweden and Switzerland, Reuters reported.
On the other hand, the Game’s last two albums, 2006’s
“Doctor’s Advocate” and 2005’s “The Documentary,” landed on No.1 in their first
weeks.
Kid Rock’s “Rock N Roll Jesus” slipped one spot and claimed
the third position with 89,000 copies, followed by the Jonas Brothers’ ex-No. 1
“A Little Bit Longer,” which sold only 80,000 units. The “Mamma Mia!”
soundtrack also dropped one position to No. 5, selling 78,000 copies.
“Tha Carter III” by Lil Wayne rose one place to No. 6,
selling 54,000, while the multi-artist compilation “Now That’s What I Call
Country” debuted on the seventh position with 50,000 copies.
Sugarland’s “Love on the Inside” lingered on the eighth spot
for a second week in a row, with 47,000 and Beyonce’s sister, Solange Knowles
debuted at No. 9 with 46,000 copies for her second album “Sol-Angel and the
Hadley St. Dreams.”
Wrapping up the top 10, Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida or Death
and All His Friends” climbed up one spot with 44,000 units.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, at 7.15 million units, total
sales mounted 2.3% from the previous week, but dropped 6.5% compared to last
year’s same week.
