The National Weather Service announced for today a series of
severe thunderstorms for the southwestern Iowa area. The forecast is also expected
to bring powerful winds and significant hail.
Later in the day, thunderstorms and scattered showers will
appear over the northeastern Iowa region and isolated storms will also be
present in central Iowa.
The flood warnings issued a few days ago will remain in
effect all across Iowa, as the recent heavy rains have caused several overflows
on the Iowa, Cedar, Wapsipinicon and Maquoketa rivers. The river-areas where
people must remain alert due to the flood risk are the Raccoon, South Skunk
River, East Fork of the Des Moines, Beaver Creek, the Des Moines River, the
North Raccoon River and also some portions of the Little Sioux and Missouri
rivers.
Tuesday’s forecast shows a little improvement, with a partially
sunny sky, a 50 percent chance for thunderstorms and showers and with the high
in the upper 70s. The prognosis appears identical for Wednesday with the same
50 percent chance for bad weather and a partially clear sky.
Meteorologist Justin Lane, of the National Weather Service,
called the week's forecast "very summer-like," with more than 10
degrees above the usual temperature for this time period.
